Profile
From a happy and positive and energetic family-of five sisters .
My mom a home maker- but still a large influence on all of us. To be strong and loyal and caring.
She’s awesome and plays a huge part in my life.
My dad- lost him very early in life but have huge memories.
Jovial ,lovable , positive and extreme entrepreneurial skills and dreams.
Visionary-ahead of his times- was a proud father of 5 daughters (many at that time may not be). Wanted each one of us to be so educated that we could stand on our own feet. He was loved dearly by us and his family.
Schooling-Convent educated(as was the ‘trend’) at that time.
Fairly good student .
College and Early years-
History Honours from Miranda house- Delhi University.
Like many of us who don’t know what to do after graduating- sailed into a post graduate Diploma on Fashion Design(mostly because a bunch of friends were doing that)!
I was lucky.
And fortunate.
I had found my mooring .
I started my career very early in life-in the Fashion and Apparel Industry.
It’s been a wonderful long journey.
I complete 40 years of my active career this year!
I can’t believe it myself!
Through all the ups and downs of working in different organisations and facing up-teem challenges- I still love what I do- and am utterly blessed and grateful for the wonderful, exciting and often different years gone by.
The influences in my career have been owners and employers with whom I worked- Naresh Gujarat-Span India Meena Sethi- Orient Fashions AK Puri-Mohan Exports And my current Employer,Mentor and Friend-April Cornell- with whom my association has been a bond of the last 30 years of my career.
Today- this can sound unheard of- but it’s an honour to be working for and with her.
Career Challenges-
In my long stint in the industry- I can say- I have nearly seen it all.
Working with top designers and grassroot tailors and masters- the vivid and heady experience of success and difficulties- at the same time-makes one strong and capable to take on challenges and emerge victorious.
Here are some of the key mantras I feel have influenced me- -When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
-think and do beyond your job
-Success comes to those who want success -Turn up and show up- to work- even though you may not want to.
– This too shall pass.
-Every problem has a solution.
Work life balance-
In my years of a difficult yet successful career, I have always believed that personal life is very important.
My daughters are my pride and have been my backbone- always loving and proud of me.
My husband has been a huge support – my sounding board and partner.
Coming home on time and taking holidays together-were important things to do.
Today- I look back with pride.
I feel excited and energetic as I go to work.
New opportunities in the horizon still motivate me!
Being a mentor in the organisation and delegating work and training the team is becoming an important part of life now.
The best I hope is yet to come.
