It is a fact almost universally acknowledged that if a woman really cares about what she’s doing, she will give it her all. Latika Thukral, co-founder of Iamgurgaon, ex-Citibank and a Naree Shakti awardee, has been doing just that.What started as an idea to make the city she lives in better for her kids, has transcended all her expectations and grown into something she is passionate about. Her take on the importance of public spaces is refreshing and brings to perspective the struggles of all citizens, not just the privileged ones.
We talk to her in depth about Iamgurgaon and her vision and inspirations.
Latika Thukral, Co Founder, Iamgurgaon
Latika Thukral is currently the Co-Founder of iamgurgaon, a not-for-profit social impact organization committed towards environment protection, which was started in 2010. As part of the shared vision and persistent implementation to make Gurgaon a better place to live in, the iamgurgaon team along with various stakeholders were able to create a 380 acres city forest (Aravali Biodiversity Park) carved out of a mining and stone crushing site. In 2018, a 5.2 km green urban mobility corridor called Eco Restoration of a Bundh was also completed. As a result of her work with iamgurgaon, Latika was conferred with the inaugural Nari Shakti Award by President of India in 2015. She has also been awarded appreciation award by Government of Haryana in 2010, the L’Oréal Femina Women of Substance in 2014 and Most Powerful Women in Social Sector by Business Today in 2018. Prior to founding iamgurgaon, Latika worked with Citibank as a Senior Vice President, where her tenure lasted for 18 years. She served in leadership positions at the consumer bank in various verticals across Credit Cards, Auto and Consumer Loans, Recovery and Customer Service.
Latika is presently the Treasurer of Old Students Association of her alma mater, Hindu College. She is also a member of the advisory board of Vishwas and Vidya, schools for underprivileged children. In 2014 she started Rahagiri Foundation, an NGO formed to promote road safety, sustainable transport and community development in India, as a Co-Founder and continues to serve as a member. She started her professional career as a management trainee from ITC hotels with a short stint with them for 2 years. Latika is a graduate in Commerce from Hindu College, Delhi University and has completed the Marketing Management program from ITC (affiliated to IHC, Paris). Latika now lives in Gurgaon with her husband and two sons. Along with being a pottery student and golfer, she has recently started cycling and is training to participate in long-distance marathons.
