Hemant Batra1 is a globally acclaimed and reputed corporate, commercial, and public policy lawyer, mediator, arbitrator, author, writer and speaker, for nearly three decades. He was enrolled as an Advocate with the Delhi Bar Council in 1991. He has been an active legal practitioner of domestic/international corporate, business, commercial cross-border laws & policies for last more than 28 years.
He is the elected vice-president of SAARCLAW (South Asian Association for Regional cooperation in law), a regional apex body of SAARC established in 1990, and being the longest serving Secretary General of SAARCLAW i.e. almost 10 years in the past. SAARC is an inter-governmental diplomatic body of 8 South Asian nations. He had been associated with various projects of UN, UNDP, UNAIDS, UNESCAP, and ADB. He is chair of the South Asia committee of Indian National Bar Association. He was awarded prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medal by the Gandhi Global Foundation for effectively connecting legal communities of the SAARC nations. He was a mentor at several prestigious schools of business and a lifetime member of the general Assembly of the Union of International Association (UIA), a research institute and documentation centre, based in Brussels. It was founded over 100 years ago, in 1907, by Henri La Fontaine (Nobel Peace Prize laureate of 1913) and Paul Otlet, a founding father of what is now called information science. The UIA has consultative status with ECOSOC and associate status with UNESCO. He is a co-founder of an international law and policy think-tank, Goeman Bind HTO. He began his legal career in 1991 when he was admitted to the prestigious new Delhi Bar; and inducted into one of India’s largest firms of solicitors — Amarchand then AMHS. In 1995, he co-founded Kesar Dass B. & Associates (KDB) as managing partner of its corporate office. In 2003, he had founded Käden Boriss brand, a global alliance of independent and autonomous law firms. In 2005, he had founded an international KPO/LPO called Kaden Boriss Consulting Private Limited.
He is a well-acclaimed writer with six diverse books to his authorship. His latest book on `Due Diligence’ in business and asset acquisition has been published by a leading law publishers Eastern Book Company and has sold hundreds of copies already. He wrote the first ever text book on SAARC. It has been published twice with revised editions and unveiled by the Chief Justice of India, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister and the Secretary General – SAARC. His other books include `Face To Face With Insight (Law & Policy)’ and `Global Concerns Viewed With Law & Policy’. He has been widely covered and reported in leading newspapers, magazines and tv channels.
