01:00- A journey from a dishwasher to a master’s degree in engineering
- The reason I was a dishwasher was that I failed at school.
- I didn’t realize that you actually had to revise for your exams. I thought you just had to know it all so when I turned up and failed all my exams, I was the same as many kids. Our parents wanted to see us go to university and get an education.
- I washed dishes five days a week on split shifts while everyone else was having fun, I was going to college.
- At the end of the day, a degree is just a ticket to the ballpark.
05:09- How can brands stay relevant for a long period of time?
- Keep a tune with your target market, and what their needs and requirements are.
- As long as you’re staying true to who you are, your brand remains true.
- Understanding how people are, how you can connect to those people, and going forward with new platforms and new media.
- You always have to be investing in your brand.
14:55- The Rebel Networker
- It was a nickname that was given to me by a friend of mine who was a branding guy, and we were looking at three words that described me.
- Historically, a lot of people don’t really understand networking.
- They think networking is handing out business cards. That’s not networking.
- Networking is what happens next and people don’t realize that.
- Networking is when we’re with people and if we are in those relationships in a way of trying to help each other that’s a great way to network.
18:33- Three Lessons
- The more you network up, the more you surround yourself with people who are more successful than you, you become the average of that group, so always reach out to people who are more successful.
- Where you start doesn’t dictate, where you end up.
- Your model of the world doesn’t mean it’s right. Just because you do something one way, doesn’t mean that it’s the best.
