Education is a very important part of our lives. As such a vital institution , education builds up the society as a whole. While it is an institution that enriches humans, education sadly depends on privilege. Being unable to afford basic and right education is one of the biggest reasons for illiteracy in India.
The Brand Called You is pleased to welcome a very accomplished leader from Gujrat, Janki Vasant. Janki is the Founder of Samvedna and the recipient of Nari Shakti Puraskar Award.Janki has done some amazing work in the field of education over the years. She is a philanthropist who does grassroot work for underprivileged kids and women.
In conversation with Ashutosh Garg, Janki shares her journey of working in the social sector. Her motive to give back to society led her to lead some very interesting welfare projects. Janki shares the story of her organisation Samvedna- a nonprofit that works towards the welfare of underprivileged children. The organisation is determined to bring new educational opportunities for youngsters and give them more exposure.
Janki talks about five of her welfare projects in detail. Each of these projects are unique and abundantly opportune for the lesser privileged communities.
The ground level work done by her has helped a large number of youngsters and women from these communities. Educational empowerment has been her motive and she has worked endlessly towards it! Her work is inspired by the values of inclusion and authenticity!

Mrs. Janki Vasant is a versatile philanthropist and a social entrepreneur.
” If you have a Purpose, Means will follow”; with this philosophy she has dedicated her life to the underprivileged, eventually working towards modifying lives and environments.
Her Journey of service initiated at an early age of 18 as a social entrepreneur showcasing one of the first kutchi handicraft exhibition of a large scale in Delhi to support the drought stricken women of Kutch. Her journey continued as a volunteer with UNICEF. Post the earthquake in Gujarat, she coordinated the largest earthquake camp Visamo for two months for the earthquake victims after which her unstoppable journey with Samvedana began.
With nation building at core, passion for children and trust that education empowers, to make a sustainable impact in the society she founded Samvedana in 2003.
Samvedana; woven with compassion is working for the integrated development of socially and economically deprived children, youth and women with a focus on rural upliftment through education, scholarships, nutrition and skill development.
‘Akshara’, ‘Sattva’, ’Eklavya, Vasant Pathshala and ‘Udgreev’; are Samvedana’s five different initiatives and have reached out to over 300,000 beneficiaries since its inception.
Amongst various other accolades, Mrs Vasant received Nari shaki Puraskar, on International women’s day 2017, a national honor given by President of India.
