- Kit is a pastor who transitioned from a man to a woman.
- She lost her job at the Lutheran Church.
- Kit says, that she always had an inkling, but had it buried deep inside the closet and was unaware for the longest time.
- She recalls times when she didn’t pay attention, her self-referring was always female.
[08:14] – What do you feel about your upbringing influencing your behaviour?
- We had a large gay and lesbian population in the congregation.
- I grew up in a fairly progressive space, but trans-population had no existence in that world.
- Trans was the ballroom scene in New York City in that stage.
[12:58] – Tell me what happened with your post at Lutheran Church.
- The National Church was accepting.
- The codification says that anybody can be a pastor, till the time they are chaste and follow all the other rules.
- But any given congregation is welcome to call or not call the pastor based on their understanding.
- So, the congregation may have a much more conservative understanding of theology, which then means that they don’t want a gay or trans pastor.
- I came out on a Sunday after Easter. The process of that event started six months in advance.
- For the conservative members of the congregation, it was too much to take. They don’t see this to be part of God’s kingdom.
