[08:23] – Is there a difference in resilience between individuals who have experienced a one-shot trauma versus individuals who have experienced longstanding, insidious trauma?

  • There isn’t necessarily a hierarchy of trauma, as individuals react differently based on various factors such as the nature of the trauma, their temperament, and the support they receive.
  • However, the impact can be mitigated through factors like support, belief, and the ability to talk about the experience.

[26:24] – Did the children in your program express fear during the pandemic, and how did you address it?

  • During the pandemic, children expressed fear more through behaviours like clinging to their parents, which required a delicate approach to separation during activities.
  • The focus was on gradually connecting with them and building trust in the new environment.

[34:12] – Is optimism cultural, and is it always the right approach?

  • Optimism can be influenced by culture, but genuine optimism is universal.
  • It’s not about being overly cheerful but finding genuine hope even in difficult situations.
  • Children can sense insincerity, so optimism needs to be authentic.
  • While some cultures may view excessive optimism with scepticism, instilling hope and dreams in children is fundamental to their well-being, regardless of cultural differences.
