03:53- How do you help executives become financially savvy leaders?
- Sometimes leaders from a non-finance background need a little help in understanding finance in order to do their jobs better.
- There is a need to create a safe environment for these people as they are people of high caliber and leaders, CEOs, and also entrepreneurs.
05:30- Three I’s in understanding of the financial concept.
- The first I is for information, the second for interpretation. And that is for implementation.
- When leaders need to be financially smart, it’s not enough to look at the first I to say information, they need to understand the theory behind finance. They also need the second step, which is interpretation.
- Interpretation is about awareness, self-awareness, and communication with CFO to boost productivity.
05: 58- How important is finance for a corporate leader?
- It all depends on the background of the leader.
- What’s very important at the beginning is to diagnose properly what the unique requirements of a leader are.
- After the needs of the leader are diagnosed, coaching lessons are then tailored accordingly.
12:05- What is the process you follow to empower non-finance leaders?
- It all starts with the diagnostic tool. Tomas prepares some papers, and some tools for people, like a questionnaire that determines their financial knowledge.
- Next in the process is setting a goal. This actually helps in customizing the coaching with respect to the needs of the leader.
- The last step would be the review of the results and the question of the set goals that were achieved.
15:13- What is the role of the CFO?
- According to Tomas, CFO needs to be the right hand of the CEO.
- CFO should challenge the status quo and present challenges in a good and positive way.
- A CFO is a person who is very active and comes to the CEO and discusses the financial aspects of a company and not just presents reports.
17:44- How does a startup founder, empower herself or himself to understand numbers?
- Most often people have a brilliant plan to implement something, but they don’t have an understanding of the finance flow and the cash flow and how it works, and that becomes the reason for their failure.
- An entrepreneur needs to be financially savvy in order to successfully conduct business and raise funds.
20:07- Three lessons to take away from the conversation?
- The first lesson would be to follow your heart. It is so important to be truthful to yourself.
- The second would be to increase financial playgrounds. Never stop working on yourself. Never stop learning.
- The third would be to have the courage to change because it’s very easy to be in their comfort zones.
