05: 58- How important is finance for a corporate leader?

  • It all depends on the background of the leader.

  • After the needs of the leader are diagnosed, coaching lessons are then tailored accordingly.

12:05- What is the process you follow to empower non-finance leaders?

  • It all starts with the diagnostic tool. Tomas prepares some papers, and some tools for people, like a questionnaire that determines their financial knowledge.
  • Next in the process is setting a goal. This actually helps in customizing the coaching with respect to the needs of the leader.
  • The last step would be the review of the results and the question of the set goals that were achieved.

15:13- What is the role of the CFO?

  • According to Tomas, CFO needs to be the right hand of the CEO.

  • A CFO is a person who is very active and comes to the CEO and discusses the financial aspects of a company and not just presents reports.

17:44- How does a startup founder, empower herself or himself to understand numbers?

  • Most often people have a brilliant plan to implement something, but they don’t have an understanding of the finance flow and the cash flow and how it works, and that becomes the reason for their failure.

20:07- Three lessons to take away from the conversation?

  • The first lesson would be to follow your heart. It is so important to be truthful to yourself.
  • The second would be to increase financial playgrounds. Never stop working on yourself. Never stop learning.
  • The third would be to have the courage to change because it’s very easy to be in their comfort zones.
