00:31- About Priya Bhasker

  • Priya is the founder of KidsMustRead.com.
  • She’s an ex-board member of the American Women’s Association, Hong Kong. She’s also a collaborator with SP Connect.
  • Priya is also a reading coach, an ex-board member of AWA, and the ex-co-chair of AWA WISE.

18:12- What motivated you to start designing workshops for English-speaking women in Hong Kong?

  • The initial feeling of being lost upon arriving in Hong Kong motivated me, as I realized that many other expat women were facing similar challenges.
  • Through my involvement with the AWA and meeting other expat women, I recognized that I deeply understood their struggles, which drove me to help them navigate their new environment.
  • I leveraged my event organizing and marketing skills to design and facilitate workshops specifically for English-speaking women, addressing a clear need due to the language barrier and providing a supportive community.

20:59- What advice would you have for so many women looking to transition from their careers, and start anew in Hong Kong?

  • Accept that you might need to take a step back in your career initially, possibly accepting a lower designation. This flexibility allows you to build on your career in the long run if you prove your competence.
  • Lean into the change and consider exploring new interests or starting a different career path. Hong Kong’s supportive environment for entrepreneurship can help you turn your passion into a viable career.
  • Focus on establishing a personal brand that reflects your expertise and passion. Connect with people both locally and digitally to create a strong network, which will help you maintain professional momentum even if you relocate again.
