[03:05] – What is a fast jet pilot?
- I was a bombing pilot. I flew the Tornado GR4, which is a ground attack aircraft and reconnaissance aircraft.
- The fighters tend to fly up against other airplanes, like a gun-esque and then the bombing aircraft would come in as well.
- When you tell people that you are a bombing pilot, they don’t really get that. If you say that you’re a fighter pilot or a fast jet pilot, it is not really a difference between a fast jet and a jet pilot.
[05:24] – Leadership lessons you have learned during your time with the Air Force
- In military officer training, leadership skills are prioritized even before learning job-specific skills.
- Leadership is seen as an action, not just a title. This approach ensures that officers can demonstrate effective leadership from the beginning of their careers.
- In contrast, many businesses focus on teaching job-specific skills and only offer leadership training later, if at all.
- However, there is a significant distinction between management and leadership. Management involves overseeing processes and people, while leadership takes it a step further, challenging the status quo and elevating team performance.
