00:33- About Anubha Doshi

  • Anubha Doshi is the founder and director of Artsphere and Soulsphere.
  • She’s also a psychologist and a mindfulness-based psychotherapist facilitator.
  • Anubha is an expressive arts therapist, a classical dancer, and a Reiki practitioner.

03:06- Tell me more about Artsphere and Soulsphere.

  • My teacher pioneered dance therapy in India, blending psychology and dance. I joined her, organizing art workshops and discovering how therapeutic arts can be.
  • Due to a lack of accessible space for artists, I started an arts and culture studio space 10 years ago.
  • The centre has evolved into three spaces, hosting classes and performances in three studios while providing mental health counselling and therapy courses.

07:12- How do you bring Buddhism or Buddhist philosophy into therapy and healing?

  • I found psychology overly Western-based and lacked Indian philosophies’ wisdom. Indian philosophy had not been channelled in a way that people could understand.
  • COVID allowed time to create therapeutic movement sequences integrating Buddhist ideas into psychology.
  • We created sequences based on Indian concepts like chakras, realizing this has a deep impact. We also presented this globally with the Expressive Arts Therapy Association.
