Clothing Is A Form Of Self-Expression – There Are Hints About Who You Are In What You Wear. Let’s talk about the Importance of Style.
00:34- About Jennifer Koch and her journey
- People always ask me, “how long have you been in fashion?” All my life, really, through my very unconventional journey!
- Growing up, I was terribly shy and had a speech impediment. But one day of the year I transformed into “the Bell of the Ball” – that day was Picture Day.
- To prepare for it, my mother would take me to the fabric store to design a special dress for this day.
- On picture day I walked confidently onto the bus and felt extra special, and uniquely expressed. I wanted every day to feel like Picture Day.
- My career in fashion led me to work at Saks Fifth Avenue at age 21… backpacking around the world but always doing it in style… a stint in Paris, France working in fashion PR… years working in retail… and later onward to Bali, Indonesia to create my own fashion brand, free of the pressures of the fashion industry.
- Style is not just what you wear, but how you express yourself to the world and a way to carry yourself to manifest your dreams.
- I’m a “Style Activator” – I help women (and some men) be as beautiful on the outside as they want to feel on the inside.
02:41- Mark Twain said, “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in society”. Your thoughts?
- We judge people within the first seven seconds that we meet somebody and such a big part of that is our clothes and how we present ourselves.
- It tells a lot about the person.
04:20- What are the biggest misconceptions about style?
- The first one is that style is something that’s superficial which is why it took me a little while to actually pursue it as a career.
- Style is not the same as a trend. Style is the reflection of your soul.
13:52- How do you help people as a “Style Coach”?
- I really take them on this metamorphosis journey.
- We do work on their style, but it’s also something so much deeper and more significant about this rebirth and how they want to show up in a new way.
- Going through their closet I do what’s called a Feng Shui wardrobe. that’s getting rid of that old, outdated stuff and making space for this new style to emerge.
