Overview

Every one of us needs to be coached at one point or the other in our lives. Be it the ones who are already successful or the ones that have just started the journey of success, we all need some guidance. Today we have with us Bill to talk about his methods of coaching.

05:58- What do you mean that you specialize in turning awareness into action?

  • If as a coach I can create the awareness that they can do something different then the question becomes how do I actually get them to do it.
  • First methodology is a concrete reminder in which we use a prop to create awareness and to try to change a specific behavior eventually.
  • For example, one of my clients was not letting other people speak and he was not aware that he was doing it. So, we got him to keep a small ferrari toy car at his desk to remind him that he is going too fast

12:45- How do you think culture impacts coaching?

  • Culture definitely impacts coaching but I have a bit different perspective on it then others I believe.
  • We all are coached by some other people whether we realize it or not. We always have the abilities and beliefs according to the people that have coached us.
  • For example, one of the executives of an organization that I worked with did not believe that he could confront people at the shop level to get better results. And when we guided him, he got better results by doing that.

15:47- What differences do you see in coaching a younger leader as compared to an older leader?

  • The older leaders that I work with are already successful. So, I always talk to them about the areas that we need to polish more.
  • With the GenZ on the other hand, it is more about finding what skills they require and developing them.
  • Also, with the millennials, I tell them that they need to be deeply involved with their leaders and ask questions instead of expecting their leaders to simply tell them what they need to do.
