11:06- What is the role of emotional intelligence in effective leadership?

  • When COVID started, most CEOs told me they didn’t know how to deal with people who were suffering.
  • They needed to develop more empathy and emotional intelligence beyond just increasing salaries.
  • When people truly master emotional intelligence they can relate to others in a meaningful way. And have their team follow them and believe in their leadership.

18:28- How can a leader balance the need for innovation and adaptability with the stability and continuity required in large international organisations?

  • Leading during times of change is a paradox – leaders need to provide some continuity to avoid anxiety, while also preparing people for transformation.
  • They need to stimulate people’s minds and intellectual curiosity to anticipate changes. Without adapting, organizations will become irrelevant.
  • Leaders need to speak to people’s hearts to reassure them, while also making clear that adaptability and a mindset of embracing change are essential
