On today’s motivational episode of The Brand Called You, we have with us a successful and determined personality, Mr. Rajendra Deshpande. Mr. Deshpande is the Manager and CEO of Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd. He has devoted 42 years of his life to the Kirloskar Business Group. He is on the governing council of The Kolhapur Institute of Technology. Mr. Deshpande is also an avid sportsperson. He gas represented Maharashtra in sports such as handball, softball and rowing. He is a member of the Managing Committee of Maharashtra Cricket Association. He has also managed some test matches in Pune!
Having finished his Engineering, which he considers as a key milestone, Mr. Deshpande joined the Kirloskar Oil Engines as a trained engineer and retired as the Managing Director. The company has produced two hundred thousand Diesel engines and is considered to the leading producer of Diesel engines in India. Kirloskar Oil engines sells their own as well as other top quality engines to potential buyers across the country. Integrity, Simplicity and Perspective are the core values on which the Kirloskar business stands.
Being an entrepreneur himself, Mr. Deshpande described some important qualities that every entrepreneur should possess. He believes trust every entrepreneur should be a good role model, a good listener and have risk taking abilities. He elucidated that every leader should be a team player and vice versa.
As a sportsperson, he believes that qualities that are required in a businessman are very similar to that of a leader or entrepreneur. Mr. Deshpande reminisced about managing matches and sports events too.
He has contributed greatly not only to the corporate world through his business abilities but also to the world of sports!

Started carrier as Management Trainee in Production Department. Worked in different department like Projects, Ancillary Development Department and Materials Department. Worked as a strategic business unit head for small engines for 3 years and then for medium engines business unit for 4 years.
During the period of Head of Medium Engine business unit, Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd Company became a flagship company amongst the Kirloskar group.
Working as a Managing Director & CEO. Have traveled around more than 20 countries for business.
Worked as a mentor for 5 years for Kirloskar group Energy Conservation Committee.
Worked as chairman of MANUFACTURING AND SME Panel for C.I.I. Pune for 2 years.
Worked on a green field project for the expansion of Medium Horse Power range engine plant at Kagal 5 Star M.I.D.C. area near Kolhapur. The plant was erected and commissioned in a record time of 18 months from the earth breaking ceremony. The total investment is around Rs 500 crores and is the state of the art engine and generating set manufacturing plant.
Working as a Governing council member on Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) for last 8 years.
Working as a Governing council member of Kolhapur Institute of Technologies, College of Engineering Kolhapur since 2007.
Working as a Governing council member of V.I.I.T. Engg College Pune since 2009.
Working as Chairman of the Advisory Committee of Mechanical Engineering Department of Kolhapur Institute of Technologies college of Engineering from September, 2007.
Recipient of “National Industrial Excellence Award by National Education & Human Resource Organization in 2012/13.
