On another inspiring episode of The Brand Called You, we have with us Ms. Rekha Sethi. Rekha is the Director General of the All India Management Association (AIMA). She has spent 17 years with CII which is a giant association of business, management and industry.

In this conversation, Rekha shares with Mr. Garg the Three key milestones of her life. She believes that CII has played a major role in her life and she is grateful for the experiences that she obtained working there.

Rekha talks about AIMA, which is an apex body for management. She mentions that the aim of AIMA is to ensure that technology and innovation are brought into the management field of the country. She believes that management professionals should think big and out of the box to ensure maximum success in managerial projects.

On being asked about the Young Leaders Council of AIMA, Rekha throws light on the subject and explains that it is a council created for involving young individuals. And to let them experiment in the field for experience and learning. 

Rekha also puts forward some very relevant points with respect to gender imbalance.

“Empathy, inclusiveness and decisiveness”.

These are the three qualities that Rekha believes every CEO should possess. Success to her is happiness. Something that she has indeed achieved.

Ms Rekha Sethi is the Director General of the All India Management Association (AIMA), the apex body for management in India. AIMA is a non-lobbying, not for-profit organisation working closely with Industry, Government, Academia and students to further the cause of the management profession in India. AIMA makes a salutary contribution to management learning and practice in the country by offering various services in the areas of testing, distance education, research, publications and management development programmes. Rekha took charge of AIMA in June 2008. She has since established AIMA as the preferred platform for discussions and debate on management and has deepened AIMA’s relationship with the Government of India and India Inc. AIMA now attracts India’s top industry leaders and policy makers on its platform. Rekha is also on the Boards of some leading Indian companies as an Independent Director including Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, the world’s fourth largest specialty generic pharmaceutical company and India’s top pharmaceutical company. She is also on the Board of Sun Pharma Laboratories Ltd and Sun Pharma Distributors Ltd; CESC, one of India’s leading Power generation and distribution companies and the flagship company in the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group and on the boards of Spencer’s Retail Ltd and Hero Steels Limited. She represents AIMA on the Board of All India Board of Management Studies, constituted by AICTE and on the Governing Council of National Productivity Council, an autonomous organisation of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade. She is also a Member of the Governing Council of the India Habitat Centre and a Director on the Board of the Management, Entrepreneurship and Professional Skills Council (MEPSC). She is also a member of the Sub-Committee of Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) of the National Board of Accreditation, which is mandated to facilitate quality in technical education syllabi in India and a member of the Advisory Board of the Switzerland based St Gallen Foundation think tank, Leaders of Tomorrow – Knowledge Pool. Prior to joining AIMA, Rekha worked with India’s premier industry organisation, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for over 17 years. There she led the initiative to create high-profile international events to promote India’s economic interests. She started her career with the Center for Development of Telematics (C-DoT). Rekha is an alumnus of St Stephens College, Delhi University.
