[13:06] – What lessons would you share with us that you gained from your vast leadership positions?
- Embrace Healthcare technology: Despite initial expenses, it’s crucial for streamlining and speeding up healthcare services.
- Understand the complexity: Success in healthcare leadership requires deep knowledge of healthcare technology, Medicaid, and Medicare.
- Experience matters: Executives need hands-on experience and an understanding of the healthcare ecosystem to run a profitable business.
- Emphasise efficiency: Technology can expedite healthcare services, ensuring prompt access to care without eligibility delays.
- Strategic vision: Leaders should anticipate and adapt to constant changes in regulations and administration to navigate the healthcare landscape effectively.
[18:15] – Can you elaborate on your role in introducing cloud computing for Medicaid management information systems (MMIS) and its impact?
- I proposed the idea of cloud computing for MMIS to streamline implementation, reduce costs, and improve efficiency.
- We became the first in the nation to establish cloud computing for MMIS, allowing states to buy modular systems instead of full ones.
- This innovation saved costs, accelerated implementation, and improved overall efficiency in Medicaid management.
[27:46] – Where do you see gaps in the healthcare system, and how can they be addressed in the future?
- In terms of gaps, interoperability between systems remains a challenge. While some states embrace innovation, others are more conservative.
- Bridging these gaps requires a collaborative effort to ensure systems can communicate effectively, share data for analytics, and leverage AI for predictive modelling.
- Instituting interoperability standards and encouraging data sharing can help address these gaps and improve healthcare delivery.
