05:07- How has Human Resources changed over the past few decades?

  • According to my understanding, there has been a significant evolution in the field of HR.
  • It started in the 60s, focusing on basic welfare facilities and industrialization.
  • In the 70s, there was a shift away from industrial disputes, and in the 80s, there was investment in certain regions.
  • During this time, the idea that personnel was outdated emerged, and HR professionals became the change agents.
  • However, there was a shift from the tag of a change agent to becoming a business partner.
  • The significant evolution I see is that HR has moved from being a specialist function to having a business impact.
  • HR professionals who understand business succeed, while those who don’t, don’t make an impact.

15:03- How has the pandemic impacted the workplace?

  • As per my understanding, there has been a tremendous impact on our lifestyle and work style due to the pandemic.
  • The HR community has risen to the occasion to deal with people, and empathy has become crucial.
  • The shift towards working from home has brought in two major advantages.
  • Firstly, it has recognized that women can do as much complex and tough work as men, and secondly, it has enabled younger people who are tech-savvy to take on leadership roles.
  • The pandemic has put an end to the idea that seniors with gray hair or no hair should be promoted to directors.
  • It has brought women and younger people to the forefront, and the future will be in the hands of those who have been marginalized.
