Overview
Change, as it is said, is the only constant. In order for any business to grow, the policies, way of working, and interaction among leaders must change. It is only possible when the leaders are ready to transform from the core. You cannot expect to see the desired result of transformation without understanding what it means and then diligently going through all the steps to reach where you want to. In this episode, we discuss the steps that must be followed to achieve a successful transformation.
[00:31] – About Ed Hansan
- Ed is the partner and Chair of Digital Transformation and Managed Services and Outsourcing group for Nelson Mullins.
- He, as an attorney, focuses on the client-side use of technology as a conduit for business change.
[02:48] – You state that you specialize in helping organizations who are using a third-party transformation partner, build that relationship, during the full deal cycle and establish an environment that encourages transformation. Help me understand what you do, and please give me an example.
- When people think of transformation, they’re usually talking about what we call Level Three transformation.
- Level three transformation is about the end game.
- They miss a level two and a level one transformation.
- So level two transformation is around alignment. One of the problems that we have right now is that people don’t truly understand alignment.
- In order to get alignment, you have to understand collaboration. And that’s not an easy thing, either, because people fundamentally don’t know how to collaborate.
- Collaboration is understanding how to build an environment where people can talk to each other.
- This is not necessarily a pleasant process, it should be a very rewarding process.
- If you’re going to build a foundation to have a true transformation, you have to go through levels one and level two.
[07:31] – Where do you put digital transformation?
- Digital transformation is an amorphous term because it means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.
- Any kind of transformation requires level one and level two to have level three.
- The point of the other two is that you’re missing the cultural transformation, you’re missing the ability to encourage people to learn how to work together, or not learning how to talk to each other.
- Transformation is fundamentally a creative process. Creative processes don’t lend themselves very well, to rote processes.
