Storytelling can help you meet your sales targets more easily. People enjoy reading about characters who face and conquer obstacles, which is why it is effective.
By sharing your own and other people’s experiences, you may humanise your selling and strengthen the bonds you have with potential customers.
In today’s episode of The Brand Called You, Yasmine Khater talks about her venture Sales Story Method. She also sheds light on the importances of the art of storytelling and one’s talents in sales.
00:33 – About Yasmine Khater
- Yasmine is a half-Egyptian, half-Singaporean TEDx Speaker.
- She has a degree in psychology and communications.
- She is also the host of the Sales Story Podcast.
03:31- Are salespeople born? Or are they trained?
- Every single one of us was born a natural salesperson, but you’ve been trained not to do it.
- You’ve been trained not to ask, not to do things. So even though we were born with it, we come from a culture where it’s not appropriate to do certain things.
- And the salesperson, the ones who are masterful, spend a lot of time learning some of that outdated stories that’s actually holding them back from being of service to other people.
05:30- Why in your opinion, is the art of storytelling so important for everyone?
- We live in an era where people are so overwhelmed.
- But the average person is dealing every single day, with about four to 10,000 messages coming through their head, most people are multi-screening at the same time.
- You can imagine, in order for us to like shortcuts, the fastest way is through stories.
- And it’s because stories tap into not the logical brain, but the emotional brain.
- And when we start to understand that we can get people to focus on areas that they actually want support on.
- But perhaps because of their limitations, their struggle, their stress, and what they’re going through, they’re getting stuck to those things.
21:12- What would you say are three learnings you want our viewers to take away from our conversation?
- The first one is that you have so much more potential than you think you do. And I think a lot of times we forget that.
- Don’t underestimate where you are. Where you are today is not who you’re going to be in one year from now. And things can change really, really fast.
- The second thing is to invest in your learning.
- And the third and final one is really about taking action. It’s really about trying before you’re ready, and being okay with failing.
- Magic only happens when we are playing the game. And if we’re not even in the game, then we don’t even have any hope.
