Overview

With social media gaining a larger part of our lives, businesses have resorted to them for marketing their brands. A business branch, which was earlier seldom seen to be a cost, is now an investment, trying to gain maximum eyeballs and attraction to a brand for its success.

But with the advent of technology in every field, the crux of a process remains the same. What is marketing? Why is it important? How to approach it? We have all your questions answered in our conversation with a leading marketing specialist, Sahil Vaidya.

00:34- About Sahil Vaidya

  • Sahil is the Co-Founder of The Minimalist.
  • He was a part of the Forbes 30 under 30.
  •  An engineering graduate from IIT Bombay, Sahil co-founded the company during his final year in 2015.

00:48- What was your motivation to start The Minimalist?

  • We define The Minimalist as a Creative Solutions Company.
  • We work with leading brands across the globe to create inventive and thought-provoking work.
  • My Co-Founder and I were batchmates, and we both were passionate about creativity.
  • There were so many social issues happening in India and there was no one talking about them.
  • We decided to put out really minimal designs on these social issues.

03:17- Campaigns by The Minimalist

  • We came up with the entire crafting life proposition for Mahindra Live spaces.
  • We worked with them to create a larger purpose for the brand.
  • We launched that via brand film, and we have been managing all their different properties across India.

06:17- How to keep your brand relevant?

  • A lot of brands die because of the business itself.
  • Morality and ideas shift from generation to generation.
  • Many brands are stuck with a principle of models that belong to a previous generation, where they are not able to adapt to how the new people think.
  • The brand needs to be culturally tuned into what kind of conversations the audience is having and what their interests are, and reinvigorate or reinvent its own positioning to stay relevant with the time.

08:06- How is communication for the brand evolving and changing?

  • Digital has finally started commanding a very big percentage of the spending.

10:39- How does The Minimalist decide which platform they should select?

  • It boils down to where your customers are, both your current ones and the ones you aspire to get onboard.
  • It predominantly dictates the agenda for your social media strategy.

14:45- How is technology changing the way advertising agencies are functioning?

  • If a brand does some level of marketing or builds some associations with its brand people ultimately land on a website or an app or landing page.
  • That experience also needs to be in sync with the marketing.
  • It needs to understand the customers’ mental models to deliver the smoothest experience possible to enable transactions.
