Overview

People need to feel heard and seen as if they belong somewhere. Companies often overlook this in their culture which leads to employees leaving the company and staying unmotivated. We need to be over-communicative if we want to build a culture where we want our employees to have a sense of belonging. Loyalty stems out of the sense of belongingness and not the other way around. Today we talk about how companies can build a culture where their employees feel safe and get a sense of belongingness.

  • Humans need to think that they belong somewhere, so companies need to think through how to make every employee feel like they belong in the company.

05:22 – How do you build a sense of belonging in a time when working from home has become the new normal?

  • We need to understand that the employees have been working from home for the last two years. We cannot just yank them out of it.
  • People need to feel heard and seen. We should be slow with the process and pick a day every week and be intentional about it.
  • We also need to be overly communicative to build at times like these to feel connected.

09:49 – What are some inequity challenges faced by women and minorities in the world?

  • It is hard to level the playing field without first making the same knowledge available to everyone. So we have to think about how to transfer information so that minorities can advance.
  • Another worrisome challenge mainly for women is to have a voice. There are many women that have been harassed, but they are afraid of coming forward.

  • Sometimes people come from different cultures which is why it is so important to be open-minded.
  • You learn from different people and become better as a result.
  • You incorporate different viewpoints, and you are able to see everything from a better perspective.
