[03:48] – What made you become a coach?
- During my stint with DreamWorks Animation, I was fascinated with the education world and the world of training, as all departments had to be built from scratch.
- When the company changed direction owing to the recession, I decided to do consulting at the intersection of the entertainment industry, technology, and education.
- I ended up co-running a graduate program for a university in entertainment management and then began to work with talent development with my graduation students
- In one of the TEDx talks, I spoke about rekindling self-confidence among boomers, so they are considered viable workers even in their 60s.
[09:46] – Help me understand, “how you learned to turn setbacks into success in a volatile business”.
- In my entertainment career, I was fired 39% of the time. We are taught that getting fired is shameful.
- The entertainment business is very volatile, as you try to second-guess the taste of the mass audience, which is constantly changing.
- I had to learn how to pivot from these setbacks.
- One has to be always on toes and realize the is maybe another way of salvaging the situation or pivoting into something amazing.
[18:50] – Tell me your hypothesis when you wrote this book.
- I wrote this book to counter the discouragement that many people feel from having worked in corporate jobs for 20, 30, or 40 years.
- They think that I either don’t want to retire or can’t afford to retire.
- I want to tell people that the solution to the problem is already inside them.
- You have the confidence, experience, and insight. You just need a little activation.
