- Most recently for 10 years, he was Managing Director and Head of the North America Office for China Investment Corporation (CIC), China’s sovereign wealth fund.
- Prior to that, Mr. Ma served as the deputy head of equity capital markets at Barclays Capital, a vice president at J.P. Morgan investment banking, and a corporate lawyer at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP.
- He was selected as a 2013 Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum (WEF).
09:44 – What got you interested in teaching about Sovereign Funds?
- After 10 years, of Wall Street lawyer and banker experiences I got a chance to join CIC at its very beginning, as the first group of overseas hires.
- Today CIC has become a 1 trillion-plus institution.
- It was a great platform for me to get into the global capital market.
32:07- You’re involved in interactive entertainment companies, what does that mean?
- Anyone who has gone through the initial internet, then it’s very clear to people, there are three phases of internet development.
- It’s the end of the last century, and most people got into the internet, through emails, and .com websites. You just read it, or you don’t know how you can contribute or how you can create your own internet.
- In 2006-2007, when you have a social network, Facebook, and online entertainment come up, then you could participate. It was the start of the interactive concept.
