Dr Barrie Litzky’s personal teaching goal is to continue demonstrating to business and entrepreneurship students that they can do well by doing good, and she is a strong advocate for the triple bottom line (economic, environmental, social) approach to measuring success.

03:40- Difference between social entrepreneurship & for-profit entrepreneurship.

  • While the traditional entrepreneur aims to create a product, service or process for which a consumer will pay, the social entrepreneur seeks to create a product, service or process from which society will benefit.
  • For-profit entrepreneurs typically measure performance using business metrics like profit, revenues and increases in stock prices. Social entrepreneurs, however, are either non-profits or blend for-profit goals with generating a positive “return to society”.

07:23- Qualities of a startup entrepreneur.

  • Vision – They need to stick to their vision and articulate it.
  • Passionate- Entrepreneurs’ passion attracts people to their company.
  • Resilience- Every decision comes with different paths. Some are right, and some doors are closed. So, you may have to reroute. 
  • Optimism- Knowing your vision and believing in it will result in people supporting it. 

22:40- Three lessons

  • Stick to your vision. Implement the idea that you believe in.
  • Listen to your heart.
  • Listen to the people who know more than you.
