08:52- How do you approach the concept of disconnected leaders? And what solutions do you advocate for bridging this gap?

  • We are so busy being busy we don’t switch off and we’re not relationally connected like we were 40 years ago.
  • Execs often can’t state their three biggest priorities in life and why, indicating a disconnection from themselves.
  • The “5-4-3-2-1” exercise (noting 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can touch, 2 things you can smell, 1 thing you can taste) can help ground you, lower adrenaline/cortisol, and enable presence and connection with yourself and others.

21:49- What advice would you have for teams to maintain momentum and motivation in the face of setbacks or challenges?

  • When there are setbacks, it’s about checking in with people about what’s hurt, what’s been hard, so that they feel heard – and it’s from when people feel heard, they’re able to lay things to rest.
  • We need to debrief difficult setbacks well to lay them to rest to come together.
  • Often we’re so fast-moving, that we just need to have a reference for some people who get stuck with a setback that will pull a whole team down, so mopping up well is important.
