[00:17] – About Jeff Davis

  • Jeff is the founder and chairman of 12 Mavens.
  • He is also the founder of “Plan The Attack”, among many other things that he has done over the years.
  • Trained as an illustrator, Jeff, today runs an organization for business leaders.

[04:48] – What is the story behind 12 Mavens?

  • A maven is someone who shares their wisdom and knowledge with others.
  • The concept was, what if you had 12 different mavens who all are good at different things, are from different businesses, have different skill sets that they’re really strong at, have different experiences that they could share with others, and have had success in different things? And what if you had 12 of those different people all combined sharing their wisdom and their knowledge with others?
  • There is a structure around it, and you don’t spend half the time talking about beer or games.
  • When you have a dedicated facilitator, their whole job is to herd the cats, have a framework that you use to make sure it’s moving to make sure this person’s not talking too much, and bring in this person who’s not saying anything.

[20:44] – Can you share something from some failure from which you learnt and it changed something in your life?

  • A big failure for me was when the company was growing really fast in 2006.
  •  I decided to double my staff and quadruple my office space, buy my first house, and have a kid all at the same time.
  • This was all close to the great recession.
  • I made all the decisions without peer group’s suggestions.
  • I have now learnt to be moderate and have a better risk control.
