The CEO Leadership Alliance Orange County is an organization co-founded by Douglas Wilson and Richard Gochnauer. The organization was formed with the goal of connecting CEOs in Orange County to learn from each other and build high-performing companies while also making a positive social impact. The founders were inspired by a conference on purposeful leadership they attended at Harvard Business School and their experiences as CEOs of successful companies.

About Leadership Alliance of Orange County

The CEO Leadership Alliance of Orange County (CLAOC) was forged by the leaders of some of the most prominent companies in the county around a common purpose of creating a thriving OC for all. We are a collaborative effort led by purposeful CEOs who believe that contributing to the community is not only a responsibility but the right thing to do.

Vibrant communities require cross-sector collaboration to create new opportunities and solve complex challenges. CEOs have the convening power and resources to bring the right people together. We are a diverse community, and it’s too easy to work in silos without a common endpoint in mind.

We work strategically to help others succeed through five focus areas to build synergies for enhanced economic and community well-being:

– AI-Infused Talent

– Ecosystem Branding

– Entrepreneurial Culture

– Experiential Learning

– Policy & Infrastructure

This five-part strategy is designed to create a multiplier effect as a flywheel that spins and builds momentum. These work streams reinforce each other as key leverage points to build compounding impact over time. Our mission is to grow OC into a top-tier innovation region in America.

How did you form the alliance?

  • The need to build out in Orange County, connecting our CEOs where they could learn from each other, and how to build both high-performing companies and a better world that was at the core of what we were trying to do.
  • The CEOs themselves actually said, we not only want to do that, but we also want to work on how we collectively could work together, to build out our community to solve some of the biggest problems, because it’s the business leaders who have the power to convene.
  • We have a stake in this community. If it doesn’t thrive, we don’t succeed.
  • We help lead this, bring the right people to the table, and help shape the future of Orange County. That’s how we began.
  • And that’s what we’ve been doing for the last six years now. And we have doubled down on a key issue not only in Orange County but in America.
  • And that is a problem of talent, and a problem of capital in our region that needs to be more adequate for the investments required, and too much capital is coming from outside our area.

Where do you want to be two to three years from now?

  • I think what we’re looking at three to five years from now is one, we’ve helped reshape federal policy and federal funding, where they are partnering much more closely with the business community, and business at a local level is helping to own the driving and implementation of those funds into their regions.
