04:18- What are the major challenges faced in peacebuilding at an international level?

  • Identifying and building relationships over time with key leaders and their advisors is important, as advisors can influence leaders.
  • For immediate release efforts, selling ideas is easier, but for long-term peacebuilding between groups, fundraising is harder as it requires behind-the-scenes, time-intensive work.
  • Fundraising constraints are a critical challenge for efforts needing sustained engagement for building shared vision and peace between opposing groups.

15:33- What are some key lessons you have learned about human nature and conflict through your work?

  • It’s difficult to classify people as good or bad, as we are all flawed.
  • Spending time to understand perspectives and build confidence can reveal opportunities for solutions.
  • Despite the horrendous conflict between Russia and Ukraine, knowing delightful people on both sides indicates it should be possible for leaders to discuss and find agreeable ways forward.
