[04:47] – How did you transition from a PhD in abnormal psychology to the wedding industry and business?
- The transition happened through a serendipitous introduction by a friend.
- During a gap year after completing my Master’s degree, I explored the wedding industry, working occasionally as a wedding photographer’s assistant.
- I discovered my enjoyment in being around people on their wedding day, witnessing the creativity and hard work that went into it.
- My natural curiosity and interest in various fields, coupled with my psychology background, eventually led me to start my own business in the wedding industry.
[17:12] – How do you approach organising events, both in the wedding industry and conferences?
- I approach organising events by prioritising a deep understanding of the target audience.
- In the wedding industry, I focus on understanding the couple’s desires, whether it involves photography, in-person experiences, or accommodating family members.
- Similarly, in conference organisation, I emphasise on knowing the target audience’s needs, the goals of the conference, and the desired outcomes for both attendees and exhibitors.
- Clear identification of the audience and their expectations guides decisions related to the event’s structure, content, and overall experience.
[20:00] – What trends do you observe in the conference industry?
- There is a growing trend towards prioritising the experiential aspect of conferences.
- Attendees are increasingly valuing the overall experience, which includes sustainability, neurodiversity, and the integration of AI.
- While there is still a preference for in-person interactions, there is a higher level of acceptance for hybrid events, combining both physical and virtual elements.
- The industry is adapting to accommodate diverse preferences and needs, reflecting a shift in how conferences are organised and experienced.
