Deepa is in conversation with our host Ashutosh Garg and she shares the stories of her incredible ventures. Deepa describes Swatanya as a responsible Social Creative Crafts Enterprise. It is a sustainable venture that creates handcrafted products using upcycled waste and recycled raw material. Every product is handcrafted by women who live in slums. These women are upskilled and trained so that they can earn.

They have a plethora of products to choose from. The idea behind this venture she shares, was to help these women lead stable lives while also enhancing their skills. Deepa shares that by collaborating with Svatanya, the women have gained confidence and financial stability. They are able to support their families and educate their children. Sustainability, welfare, empowerment and skill are the words that best describe Deepa’s brainchild Svatanya.

Deepa, a NIFT post graduate has 21+ years of extensive hands- on experience in design, production, merchandising to quality assurance, buying and retail and also significant exposure to Indian handicrafts, corporate/ sports consultancy. After 13+ years in Corporate world with last two being COO roles, Deepa launched SVATANYA, a social enterprise that empowers underprivileged women by upskilling them to make handcrafted products, under labels, AMARYN and AMARYN Kids (My Munchkin). This helps the women learn and gain financial independence and self-reliance. Environmental consciousness is a core value and to minimize carbon footprint, raw materials range from sustainable fabrics, up/recycled textiles and stock fabrics. To provide regular training and livelihood to women, Deepa and Nimish setup SVATANYA Foundation. AMARYN CARE was launched to gift soft toys to terminally ill underprivileged children in hospitals. The soft toys handcrafted by women get them training and money, and bring joy to needy and unwell children.
