00:32- About Madhukar Sabnavis
- Madhukar Sabnavis is the Fmr Vice Chairman and Director – Client Relations, at Ogilvy, India.
- His interests beyond advertising are Cricket, Hindi movies, and understanding culture.
03:54- How has the advertising industry in India evolved in the last decade, and what role has Ogilvy played in shaping it?
- I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have entered the advertising industry in 1985, almost by chance.
- In 1991, the country experienced a substantial change when television began to thrive, opening doors for global brands and ushering in a wave of consumerism.
- I entered the industry when it was predominantly led by a single agency, handling all aspects of advertising. Over time, we witnessed a shift toward specialization.
- Our benchmarks for creativity have expanded. I don’t want to sound pompous by claiming that a single agency has shaped the entire industry, but I believe that Ogilvy has played a part in the industry’s evolution.
13:22- What are your thoughts on the role of influencers and social media in shaping digital marketing in India?
- I believe that influencers will continue to be an essential pillar of any digital media strategy moving forward.
- While their reach may be smaller compared to the celebrities of the past, they still hold significant sway over consumers.
- There will still be room for direct communication with consumers through our own stories and messages.
- Therefore, we shouldn’t ignore the power and potential of influencers, but rather evaluate them based on the quantity and quality of their followers, as well as their credibility.
