- Jon Kaufman is the Chief executive Officer of Global Water First.
- He is an author of a book titled, “Long Walk on a Dry Road”.
- He owned a marketing company in Silicon Valley for around 40 years.
[04:00] – Tell me about Global Water First and what was your motivation to start it.
- Started a project in rotary called H2 open doors, in an attempt to disrupt how water is provisioned for the poor.
- We would raise money through rotary to do projects and install 6 to 7 installations a year over the last 13 years in around 15 countries.
- I settled upon a membrane technology, that takes the bacteria and viruses out in a system out of the water, as opposed to just killing it and leaving UV or chemical treatment.
- We set Global Water First as a Delaware Public Benefit Corporation. It has an equal measure of shareholder return and public benefit.
[11:25] – What in your opinion is the reason for the serious challenges to water?
- It is the age-old infrastructure that needs to be blamed.
- The reason for optimism is the high-level thinking about it.
- For instance, bridging the communities prone to flooding with the communities prone to drought.
