Overview

After a successful career as a rower, Steve Rowbotham was dropped from Team GB just weeks before the 2004 Olympics, and he picked himself up. He knew he could win a medal, recommitted himself and worked his way back onto the team – winning bronze in 2008 in Beijing.

Now Rowbotham is a successful entrepreneur, a CCO and founder of Navigator. But it took time to come to him. Here is a story of an ex-Olympian who had lost and found himself on a journey from a sportsperson to an entrepreneur.

  • He won the bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
  • After retiring from athletics, Steve embarked upon a business career. In 2014, Simon Leslie, co-founder of Ink Global, the world leader in travel media, offered Steve the opportunity to bring to Ink what he had learned about success in athletics.
  • Steve has played a crucial role in helping double the company’s turnover over the last few years.
  • Rowbotham was educated at Clifton College and Durham University, where he switched from tennis to rowing.
  • He graduated from Durham in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics.

  • I began to see that it was time for me to take another step in the evolution from Steve, the Olympic hero, to Steve, the leader who cares passionately about the happiness and success of others and my own.
  • Having figured out how to draw out the best in myself, I wanted to inspire and guide others to draw out the best in themselves.

  • Stay integrity with yourself. Anything is possible, and no one is unique.
  • There is no lack of resources in the world. Everyone has a right to everything available in the world.
  • Life is hard for everyone. Don’t feel pity for yourself. Please go out and do it because anything is possible.
