Sruti Harihara Subramanian, National Award-winning filmmaker and Co-Founder of Goli Soda shares her insights on living a sustainable life.

01:05- What got you started in the film business?

  • I come from a family that never watched films.
  • A turning point for me was during high school, so that was the time when we had to make a decision on what career do we need to take.

03:12- Did you train as a filmmaker?

  • I had no mentors I haven’t seen anybody around me from the film industry, so I had no clue what I had to do.
  • I took up a course called visual communication.
  • More than the course, I would say my work experience was my teacher.
  • At the age of 19, I won the pageant Miss Chennai, and that opened up the world of modeling and advertising for me.

07:36- About ‘A Far Afternoon’

  • Initially, this film was not meant to be a film.
  • It was just an archival project.
  • The primal art foundation wanted me to come to Gurgaon and shoot Krishen Khanna’s painting.
  • When we started shooting him, he was 89. He was such a charming man.
  • I wet back to them and said can I make this as a film, and they said the go-ahead.

  • I have always been concerned about the environment and nature.
  • My first step towards sustainability was at the age of six when I gave up meat and I gave up wearing silk and leather.
  • It is a multi-brand platform where we curate sustainable products, and we are very strict in our curation.
  • We look at sustainability in a holistic way where we also ensure that it’s fair trade, locally sourced, and ethically sourced.

Her debut feature documentary ‘A Far Afternoon ‘ on eminent painter Krishen Khanna bagged the Rajat Kamal for the best art/cultural film at the 63rd Indian National Film Awards and also the best music for non-feature film.

Sruti has conceived and directed the Amazon Exclusive musical docu-series “HARMONY with AR Rahman.”
