- I am the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Elstree Studios – the only studios in the country owned by a local authority. In conjunction with the Elstree Managing Director, I oversee the day-to-day running of the world-famous Studios site.
- I am also Vice-Chairman of the Local Government Association Safer Communities Board and assist the LGA by running media courses in their Next Generation Scheme, aimed at training local authority leaders.

- John Maxwell named Elstree Studios ‘British International Pictures’ and signed up new talent including the up-and-coming director, Alfred Hitchcock.
- Hitchcock went into the record books by directing ‘Blackmail’ at Elstree, which is credited as the first British talking film.
- Elstree in the 1930s launched the screen careers of such stars as Laurence Olivier, Anna Neagle, Charles Laughton, Googie Withers, Stewart Granger and Ray Milland. Its output was enormous and by 1938 had produced over 200 features.
- In the 1960s, Elstree Studios or Associated British Picture Corporation as it was then known, began signing up television talent.
- In television, Elstree Studios has been home to some highest-rated shows.
