Overview
The path to self-improvement starts from the story that we tell ourselves. Success means different things to different people. If we are at a stage in life where we don’t feel successful, then the first thing we need to do is define what success is for us. The narrative that we tell ourselves defines our outcomes ultimately which is why it is very necessary that our narrative is constructive. Today we have with us Dr. Colby B Jubenville to tell us how he is helping others succeed in life.

05:03- What are some common challenges students face on their road to success?
- I think it all starts with how we tell our own story. If the people that are close to us don’t understand our narrative then they can’t help us change it.
- The experiences that we have become our story, our story becomes our identity, our identity becomes our behavior and our behavior becomes our outcomes.
- What I have found in my work is that we have to clearly state what we want and how we are going to get it before we can even start the work
09:49- Can you give us an example of one or two strategies that you use to help students?
- The process that I believe in and follow starts by assessing oneself and then formulating a plan about how one is going to change and in what direction.
- I had one particular student named Dawson who realized that what he was doing wasn’t working.
- So, he decided to take on certifications that he thought he should have in order to succeed, and ultimately he got what he wanted.
- One of the major points that we realize about personal growth as we grow older is that there is no finish line.
18:10- What was your hypothesis for your book “Zebras and Cheetahs: How to Look Different and Stay Agile to Survive the Business Jungle”?
- I am an old college professor, and you must’ve heard the old joke saying Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach.
- What I realized is that the ‘American Dream’ is actually very tough and there are not many people who prepare us for it.
- The book teaches you how to be agile in the workplace and get paid for the value that you provide.
