Harsh is the Founder and President of Tenicity, US. He has been India’s No. 1 Men’s Tennis Player and has been the National Collegiate Champion. Harsh has also been the National Junior Tennis Champion and has represented India for the Davis Cup between 2001-2010. Harsh has played all Grand Slam Tournaments.

Tennis has been a highly regarded and active sport globally. Fans from all over the world pour into stadiums to watch their favourite players match after match. With countries sending in their best players, India has also produced some of the most talented Tennis Players who have achieved international titles for the country. 

Today, we have with us one such incredibly passionate tennis player and coach on the podcast! He has a legacy of family members in the sport and is remarkably talented himself!

About Harsh:

Harsh is the Founder and President of Tenicity, US. He has been India’s No. 1 Men’s Tennis Player and has been the National Collegiate Champion. Harsh has also been the National Junior Tennis Champion and has represented India for the Davis Cup between 2001-2010. Harsh has played all Grand Slam Tournaments.

Very interestingly, Harsh is from a very illustrious family of sportspersons. His father Ashok Mankad played test matches for India. His mother, Nirupama Mankad was India’s No.1 tennis player and the first Indian Woman to play at Wimbledon. Harsh is also the grandson of Cricket Legend Vinoo Mankad!

In this very interesting conversation with our host Ashutosh, Harsh takes us through his marvellous journey of playing tennis. And shares what it took to play internationally at the young age of 13!

He talks about the sport passionately.

The preparation:

When asked about the tough preparations that go into playing a tennis match, Harsh replies:

“You want to get your mind and body in the best possible shape to perform at your best. So you think about the body, the preparation, the diet. Paying attention to the diet, eating well, making sure you are eating at the right intervals. The energy part of it is very important. Then I think rest is very important. Being disciplined, having a good lifestyle it becomes critical to be able to perform at your best and then mentally preparing yourself for the match.”

Harsh highlights his experiences of playing across the globe. He also shares some very warm stories from his tennis tours.

As a coach who now focuses on producing more champions for the country, Harsh throws light on his venture Tenicity.

“Tenicity is born out of that lifelong interest in sports, tennis and developing others. The company was launched in 2016. It has evolved but has always stayed true to the focus of improving the standards of  player development”

With a legacy of an athletic family, it is safe to say that this runs in his blood!

Harsh is giving all his energy to guiding upcoming players and helping them reach their goals. 

What is the status today?

As the discussion continues around the sport, Ashutosh and Harsh converse about the present status of the sport in the country. Harsh strongly believes that the professional, economic and technical aspects of the game have changed greatly.  

“The challenge of becoming a tennis player from India is huge”

To make a professional career out of this game is definitely challenging but worth every second of the passion one puts in the journey!

Harsh Mankad leads Tenicity’s Tennis Program which offers group and private lessons for players of all ages and skill levels in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Harsh’s passion for delivering high standards of coaching and his collaborative spirit to create new partnerships have been a catalyst for the company’s growth.
Harsh is a former NCAA Division 1 National Singles Tennis Champion and #1 ranked collegiate singles player. Professionally, Harsh was India’s #1 ranked singles Davis Cup player. His career highlights include winning the ATP Manchester Open Singles Title, qualifying for the main draw in doubles at Wimbledon, and playing against several world no.1 ranked players.
Harsh has over 10 years of experience in coaching, including developing and leading successful tennis programs. He holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management.
