The cruise industry has always been about delivering experiences. Pandemic impacted the cruise industry very severely. It had to shut down completely for a few months. David says this industry has always been very good in dealing with disruptions. Today we talk to David about his book and what he has learned by being in the industry for 40 years.

  • This industry has been exposed to disruptions of all sorts, be it economic, SARS, or the Gulf War and yet it has learned to absorb those events.
  • Being in the industry for 40 years, I have seen the industry move forwards despite the challenges, and it has taught me a lot about resilience and determination.
  • During the early stages of the pandemic, the industry had to implement additional safety protocols to assure the safety of its passengers.

10:40 – Do you see any transition in the value given by cruisers to the tourism industry?

  • As a result of the pandemic, the world experiences or we can say the desire for the world experiences has become accelerated.
  • People have started to appreciate the things that really matter such as traveling and the people they love and that is really here to stay.
  • This industry has always been about delivering experience and technology has really enabled people to improve their travel.

18:26 – Would you like to talk a little bit about your six protocols?

  • The most important thing is Knowing your way. I call it the reality check. The point is to notice the change and accept it and move on in the direction of it. The next thing is to figure out how to stay afloat.
  • The third thing is to prioritize what is significant to you. The next thing is to get flexible. Be realistic about what has changed and change with it.
  • Finally, you have to be very resilient. Resilience is a non-negotiable in life if you want to succeed in life. The last point is that you have to manage your risk while doing all of this.
