[03:12] – Why is effective communication important for everyone?

  • It is the ability to indicate whether you’re human to human or already animal to animal.
  • We are fortunate to have our ancestors developed the language.
  • We have an ability to be quite precise with what we need, and what we mean to say. 
  • The ability to clearly communicate your meaning and your emotion is as significant for companies as for individuals.
  • I’m not a linguist by nature, but I was naturally drawn to the industry because I really care about words, and how they’re said and what they really mean. 

[10:53] – Share with me one or two of your successful communication campaigns. What was it that made a campaign successful?

  • Long before the world became very entranced about the concept of mental health, two insurance firms decided that mental health and wellbeing at work was very important.
  • They both started focusing on workplace wellness.
  • Both these companies now have well-formed indexes, which people can now use and see how the world has changed towards mental health in particular.
  • I’m a huge supporter of mental wellness in the workplace, which was so ignored and there are so many new tools that we can use to cater to it.  
  • I think a lot of people in PR and in advertising and all these very long hour businesses are recognizing this.
  • I’ve worked on toothpaste campaigns, cola campaigns, technology campaigns, but I think I’m most proud of the work I’ve done in the world of health care. That’s where you can really know you really are making a difference.
