02:04- Biggest learnings and challenges you have faced during your term in China

  • The major personal challenge was air pollution, particularly PM 2.5.
  • I was concerned about the health effects and had two options: using air purifiers and staying indoors or ignoring them and going out despite bad air quality.
  • I opted for the first option and used air purifiers while avoiding going out during bad air days.
  • This was different from my experience in Germany where bad weather is manageable with an umbrella, but bad air quality in China can be 20 times worse than the WHO maximum figure.
  • However, China’s air quality has drastically improved over the last few years.

  • Berlin airport took 14 years to build compared to Beijing’s biggest airport in the world, which was completed in just four years.
  • I am impressed by the fast pace of development in China.
  • There may be other ways to do things that are not always the way we think is the right way.

  • Having quick decision-making skills
  • Being able to attract, retain, and develop people
