What is Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence
Machine Learning
The human mind is very good at remembering patterns and using them in the future for decision-making. To make us understand better, Manuj gives an example of a 2-year-old child. He says that if a child touches a gas stove and feels pain, he will immediately retract his hand.
This pattern will be embedded in his mind and he will not do it in the future. This is called machine learning in our minds. Similarly in data, machine learning can find patterns in data and make sense with it which was not visible earlier.

Artificial intelligence is created with the n number layers of machine learning.
Artificial Intelligence and misconceptions
Manuj believes that misconceptions are part of life. Whenever a new technology is introduced there are many fears and uncertainties surrounding it. Especially with Artificial Intelligence, there are misconceptions that it is going to take our jobs or it will one day take humanity over, etc.
One of the reasons Manuj believes is Artificial Intelligence is shown negatively in Hollywood movies. However, he believes that Technology can never be evil, it is just humans that use it for wrong purposes.
Manuj’s views on Artificial Intelligence being a threat to privacy
Talking about the privacy issues due to artificial intelligence Manoj says that privacy in this age is not possible. We communicate over different channels and don’t even remember about them. However, he believes that we need to try and protect the information that creates biases in this world.
Startup And Business
Basic mistakes made by startup entrepreneurs
- The very first mistake startup entrepreneurs make, according to Manuj, is spending years in raising money. They do not do any research or development, they just look for money to start.
- People believe that they always need to have a new and unique idea, that has not been discovered yet to do a startup. However, Manuj believes that one can also improve existing products to start their own business.
- Another mistake Manuj talks about is that people believe that you build a business and customers will come. He says that it doesn’t happen that way. One has to work very hard to acquire customers.
Solo founder versus co-founder
Manuj believes that being a solo founder or having co-founders do not matter. One has to judge whether the passion is ignited more with the team or alone. He says that if one is planning to have co-founders, make sure that you know them all as human beings.
You should check whether they are crazy enough to stay with you even when things are not going your way.
Bootstrapping versus raising money
Manuj strongly believes that one should bootstrap as long as possible. Manuj tells us that investors invest in hundreds startups thinking that at least two of them would be successful and they will get good returns on their investment. But it is like a loan for startups against their freedom.

What does Manuj look for in a company before making an investment?
Manuj tells us that he likes to invest in purpose-driven startups. Before making an investment he checks whether the startup’s product or service is making a good change in society or not.
