03:51- How do you integrate your conducting experience, where you may be leading an orchestra into your educational approach?

  • I used to get upset when rehearsals were disrupted, but after reading my professor’s book, I stopped taking it personally. I began to interact more with choir members, and rehearsals became more pleasant and open.
  • This change in perspective and interaction style carried over into my approach to education, where I found that connecting more with my students improved the learning environment and outcomes.
  • My experience in conducting helped me create a more engaging and receptive learning environment in education, emphasizing understanding and connection with students.

22:03- What would you say are three lessons you would like our viewers and listeners to take away from your journey, and from our conversation?

  • Learn how to connect. When you start connecting with students, pathways open up.
  • Make sure communication is key to growth. No matter how much musicians practise individually, without clear communication, they won’t get it together as a group.
  • Have a strong vision. It’s easy to end up nowhere if you don’t know where you’re going. Clarity in where you want to go is crucial.
