Overview

Change is the only constant. But how does one persuade masses and organizations for transformation? What is the correct methodology to foster transformation? Is there one way or multiple options? We have your answers covered in today’s discussion with the leader global change expert, Greg Satell.

[00:46] – About Greg Satell

  • Greg is an author of two books, “Cascades” and “Mapping Innovation.”
  • He is a lecturer at the Wharton School.
  • Greg is a global transformation and a change expert.
  • He has been ranked as one of the top innovation bloggers in the world.

[02:46] – Give us a brief overview of your books.

  • After my blog was picked up by Forbes and Harvard Business Review, a book seemed like the next logical step.
  • My first three attempts to get Cascades published failed and the process for getting it published is pretty brutal, resulting in a brain fart.
  • It led to “Mapping Innovation,” which was a huge success. That helped me to get Cascades published, which is the book I really wanted to put.
  • Mapping Innovation was about a problem I’d long wanted to solve and that was how do you innovate.
  • The key to innovating successfully is to figure out what type of issue you’re trying to solve and then to match that with the method that’s most likely to be successful.

[13:32] – Can you share a real-life case where an organization effectively applied the principles from Cascades for transformation?

  • There were some guys at Procter and Gamble and they had a big success.
  • There was a guy, it is a secret that he can’t even tell me what he did exactly, but he won a Pathfinder award from the CTO.
  • He wanted to apply the learned lessons to the company too.
  • As he got some executive sponsorship, Cascades was coming out.
  • After reading it, he managed to create a movement of 1800 people within Procter and Gamble.
  • Today, the people from other parts of the company are asking him to come and help them deliver transformation to their parts of the organizations.
