Peter Ivany AM is a highly regarded businessman who has matched his achievements in business with passionate involvement in the not-for-profit sector. The individual behind the success of Hoyts Cinemas, Peter was CEO at the time when the company grew from a small chain in Australia to a global business with over 2,000 theatres operating in 12 countries. After the sale of Hoyts in 1999, he spent several years building up his own diversified investment business, Ivany Investment Group. IIG has a range of diversified investments including property, private equity, bonds, distressed debt, start-ups, and company turnarounds, both in Australia and overseas. Past successes include Video Ezy, Harris Scarfe, and TAHL – Australia’s largest hotel owner, managed by Accor. Peter balances his work life by supporting a wide range of philanthropic endeavours. He is the Chairman of the NIDA Foundation Trust and the Chairman of the Sydney Swans Foundation. In addition, he serves as the Chairman of the Advisory Council for the Sydney Film Festival, and as an Honorary Life Governor for the Jewish Communal Appeal. He has contributed to the Boards of the MCA and Art Gallery NSW, and was a founding member of Events NSW, which started a turnaround of major events coming to Sydney. In 2007, Peter was appointed a member of the Order of Australia for service to the community through a range of fundraising, Jewish, arts, sporting organizations and business education. Peter is Executive Chairman of Ivany Investment Group, which has a significant global investment portfolio and invests directly across different asset classes, including private equity, real estate, technology, bonds and shares. Peter is a member of the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, Chairman of the NIDA Foundation Trust, Chairman of The Sydney Swans Foundation, is key investor in and sits on the boards of Allied Credit, Sydney Zoo and IMAX Darling Harbour and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology, Sydney.
