In his opinion, we are living in a motivational mess. And are often in a motivational crisis where we can not find the drivers of our motivation.

He further talks about Stir Education, a venture that is focused on helping teachers in India. Sharath has worked with about 30,000 schools, 2 lakh teachers and around 6 million students in India! His focus was to reignite the moral purpose and motivation of Indian teachers.

His work crosses a wide range of domains, but with a particular focus on Work, Education & Parenting, Entrepreneurship, Government and Philanthropy.
Sharath has addressed large global audiences at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Lego Ideas Festival in Denmark, WISE Summit in Qatar, Draper Richards Kaplan Convening in San Francisco, Varkey GEMS Conference in Dubai, and the Lemann Conference in Sao Paulo.
He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Roehampton University in 2017. He was elected an Ashoka Fellow in 2014 and was recognised as one of the UK’s ten leading social entrepreneurs in 2019. His work has been featured in the likes of The New York Times, The Economist, CNN, National Public Radio and The Times of India.
He holds degrees from Cambridge University (First Class BA/MA in Economics), Oxford University (MSt) and INSEAD (MBA with Distinction).
He gained first-hand experience in the field of motivation through founding STiR Education, the world’s largest initiative in intrinsic motivation. 200,000 teachers, 35,000 schools and 6 million children have been re-ignited to date. STiR has received over $25 million in funding from the UK and US governments, and from UBS, MasterCard, Vitol and Ikea. It has also spawned innovative research partnerships with leading research groups, including with the World Bank & Brookings Institute.
He was previously the Founding CEO of Teaching Leaders, an innovative UK-focused education leadership organisation. Teaching Leaders was expanded to all eligible primary and secondary schools in the UK, and to eight cities in the US, with backing and support from the UK and US governments.
He also held senior corporate roles at management consultants Strategy & (formerly Booz & Co), and at eBay. He was a founding team member of ContactDetails.com, a social network that preceded Facebook.
Sharath lives in North East London with his wife and two young boys. He loves reading the latest ‘smart-thinking’ books, trying out London’s new restaurants and plays, and is a keen tennis player.
