Embracing diversity and inclusion is fundamental to cultivating a workplace culture that thrives on innovation, resilience, and collaboration. It goes beyond mere acknowledgement of differences, evolving into a commitment to creating an environment where every individual’s unique perspective is not only recognized but celebrated. In this episode of The Brand Called You, Suki Sandhu, OBE, Founder & CEO of Audeliss and INvolve discusses various strategies to make the workforce more inclusive and diverse.

[00:36] – About Suki Sandhu.

  • Suki is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Audeliss and INvolve.
  • He is the Stonewall ambassador and launched the Suki Sandhu LGBTQI Asia Fund to support activism in Asia.
  • He’s also a member of the YPO.

06:35- What are the strategies that you have found to be effective in encouraging more businesses to prioritise diversity and inclusion is being talked about all the time?

  • Strategies to encourage businesses to prioritize diversity and inclusion include starting with data analysis through tools like radar, conducting surveys and focus groups to understand recruitment, attraction, development, etc.
  • Another crucial strategy is accountability, where CEOs set bold diversity targets, communicate them internally and externally, and link compensation or rewards to diversity and inclusion goals for leadership teams.
  • This approach ensures a commitment to tangible actions and measurable outcomes.

19:09- How do you see the future of work impacting diversity and inclusion, especially with the rise of remote and hybrid work models?

  • I think the impact is positive. Most companies are embracing remote working and flexibility, which I think is important when you try to think about diversity and inclusion.
  • The push for a full return to the office by some CEOs, as indicated in a recent UK survey, may be short-sighted.
  • Companies should be mindful of talent risks, as employees may leave if not given the flexibility they desire.
  • Proximity bias poses a challenge for diversity and inclusion. Women, with additional responsibilities, may face this bias, leading to potential oversight in career development.
