Overview

From 2017 and 2021, worldwide demand for socks increased at a steady CAGR of 5.2%, with the United States, Japan, China, Australia, and Europe holding significant shares in the global market.

Over the years, there has been a significant rise in the use of natural fibers such as cotton by sock manufacturers. Despite this, synthetic fibers are anticipated to generate more demand than natural fibers over the coming years. Due to their low cost, synthetic fiber socks are more in demand in underdeveloped and developing nations. David Fisher, VP of Sales, and Operation, HYP talks to us about the same.

01:42- Business of making socks

  • Private label is where you wouldn’t know it is our name or anything, we just make different designs like I love New York or smiley faces or emojis that we sell to stores.
  • The major part of our business is the licensed business. For example, using superman or batman. You have to have the rights to those brands.

07:48- What happened to the hats business?

  • We got the license for a couple of brands.
  • One of them is Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus. It was huge.
  • We realized that not a lot of girls and young women were wearing hats.
  • But everyone wears socks. So we decided to sell something that more people are buying and wearing.
  • Socks became so big that we stopped doing hats now.

11:03- How did the pandemic affect your sales and business?

Since so much of our supply chain originated in China. The supply chain was a problem for two years.  A lot of our socks were stuck in the water for five months. We did get cancellations.
