[05:04] – Tell me about your work at WinnerBrands.

  • WinnerBrands is a platform to curate a community of marketers in India.
  • It is the first time, something like this is being tried in India. India has a very vast and complex network, everyone is pretty much operating in silos.
  • As a collective, we can do a much better job if we share and pool our resources and knowledge.
  • We are creating this community through three pillars: content, courses, and careers.

[06:50] – What are potential employers looking for when they are looking for a CMO?

  • Any founder looks for three things in a CMO.
  • The first is the crystal gazing ability, owing to the times we are in. We have all witnessed consumer behaviour change in the last two and a half years. The idea is to gauge what changes are going to be temporary and what are going to be sustainable alternative behaviour.
  • The second is business understanding. Startups in India, usually have separate marketing and growth teams. My learning at P&G taught me that marketing is supposed to drive sustainable revenue. CEOs want the CMOs to have a conversation with the CFO about the business and how to grow it.
  • The third thing is leadership ability, especially as a lot of young people are coming into leadership roles.
